“…I believe the biggest mistake in the “mindset” of people today is thinking that enough exercise can get them the weight loss they want and should be their top priority. I was reminded of this recently by a person I see in the gym who is doing at least 2+ hours of daily cardio and some weights. He is in there 4-5x a week and I kid you not, brings food to the gym to snack on while he works out. I’ve consulted with him in the past and told him that he needed to focus less on working out and more on eating correctly, yet his response was “Oh…I can’t do that, I like to eat too much…so I need to workout instead”. Wrong……wrong….wrong. …”

Zeke & Vic think that they have solved the health care issue in this country with an idea called “Universal Healthcare Vouchers”. Or maybe they’re just trying to be the smartest people in the room. But the problem with their machinations is that they give away the bad assumption they start out with at the end of their article:

Precisely when Americans will once again look to Washington for solutions to the problem of American health care is somewhat unclear. But what is certain is that the day will come, and soon. Those who believe that health care is a right, not a privilege, should be prepared to offer an answer with a chance of succeeding.

Did you catch it? They say that healthcare is either a right or a privilege. The problem is that healthcare is neither a right nor a privilege, but an individual responsibility. These guys appear to be pretty badly biased towards the State, as indicated in the first sentence in the quote above. And then they assume that the opposite view from theirs to be that of the realm of the Market, as indicated by their use of the word “privilege”. Only the rich can afford to be healthy, after all. But this is wrong, and a false dichotomy.

Healthcare does not fall under the authority of either the State or the Market, but first and foremost within the realm of the Self. All Individuals must operate under the forces of Circumstance, Choice, & Consequence. Maintaining one’s own health is a responsibility, not a right or a privilege. If an Individual is not able to take responsibility for his own health, then it is right and good for the Family to help, or failing that one’s Neighbor(s) or the Church. These three Realms ideally operate with the positive motivations of Hope, Love, & Peace. The State is the last realm that should take over the issue of individual health, because it’s authority can only effectively work using the negative motivations of Fear, Obligation, & Guilt (Just like the Market & Creation), and when was the last time those motivations helped heal or care effectively for anyone?

What Zeke & Vic want to make federal law would just enhance the conspiring of State & Market against the Self (like this and this), and further weaken the realms of the Family (like this and this) and the Neighbor (like this and this), and these circumstances should be avoided at all costs.
