“The controversy over the “9/11 mosque” has dangerously missed the point. Yes, it is an offense to the families of nearly 3,000 victims who were killed in the deadliest terrorist attack ever on American soil. Yes, it will reopen and infect deep wounds. And yes, it is perfectly legal and protected by the constitutional guarantee of religious freedom. But it is also an affront to Allah. Open your Qur’an and read sura 9, verse 107…”

The New York Times is reporting that a group of Christian leaders have signed a statement buying into climate change caused by puny mortals. I’m torn about this: on the one hand, it’s true that Christians believe that humanity has a divine calling to be good stewards of the planet that God has placed us on. On the other hand, good stewardship means practicing sound science — basing decisions on data, not opinions.

The theory of puny-mortal-induced global warming is not a uniformly accepted theory. Not only does one have to cherry-pick data to support it, but one also has to linearly extrapolate the cherry-picked data and attribute the cause of the outcome of that extrapolation to just a few factors in a very large and complex non-linear system. Does that sound like good science to you?

Anyway, Iain Murray does a pretty good job of calling out the Christian “leaders” that foolishly took the bait of the silly materialist fearmongers.

As for me, I find the entire modern environmentalist movement to be ironic. They are almost all of them, to a person, evolutionists. According to them, the earth has been around billions of years, spontaneously generating and supporting life for all that time. After all that time, amongst all the upheaval and violent change, life has managed to evolve and advance. So who cares if the planet gets a little warmer? It’s just more change. Won’t life just evolve and adapt to any change in the climate? It has for billions of years, now, why would that change? Either Gaia, Mother Earth, will protect her children, or the whole concept of life is a cosmic fluke that is doomed to fail one day despite all that the descendants of the monkeys try to do to stop it.

Now, if they believed in a planet that had only been around for about 6000 years, like Young-Earth Creationists do, then they might have a more palatable argument for the possibility of short-term violent changes that wipe out entire civilizations. If the planet has only been around a short time, and things have been known to be violent and dangerous thus far, then we should all be careful and fearful and all hold our breath and hope that nothing tips the balance towards the planet’s destruction. If it is indeed that delicate, who’s to say that the whole system won’t just destabilize and collapse if we don’t behave ourselves?

Oh, but there is Somebody to say such a thing:

the LORD said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”

Genesis 8:21-22

Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him, “Behold, I establish my covenant with you and your offspring after you, and with every living creature that is with you, the birds, the livestock, and every beast of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark; it is for every beast of the earth. I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” And God said, “This is the sign of the covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I have set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. When I bring clouds over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh. And the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. When the bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.” God said to Noah, “This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.”

Genesis 9:8-17

And that is why all those Christian “leaders” are so silly to have bought what the materialists are selling. They fear man’s words instead of believing in the promises of God. Poor suckers.
