Fifteen Christian families from a tiny community of only about 1,300 people are making plans to leave their homes and work behind so that their children will not be forced by the Canadian government to attend “sanctioned” schools where evolution is taught.

A report in the Vancouver Sun said provincial officials have threatened the families with legal action, including the potential loss of their children to state control, if they do not abide by the mandatory education curriculum.

But leaders of the Mennonite families say they’ll leave Quebec before giving up their children to the state indoctrination.

In the proud and wicked tradition of Napoleon, the silly french officials are butting in where they’re neither needed or wanted and insisting everyone do it their way. They can go jump in a lake (of fire) as far as I’m concerned.

Next time a politician or any agent of a government school tells me, “We have to do what’s right for our children,” I will get right up in his/her face and tell them, “They’re not ‘our’ children. They are your children and my children. Mind your own damned children, and leave my children alone.”

The project has not been without opposition. Zoning battles with environmentalists and groups opposed to the museum’s message have delayed construction and the museum’s opening day has been delayed repeatedly. The museum has hired extra security and explosives-sniffing dogs to counter anonymous threats of damage to the building. “We’ve had some opposition,” Looy said.

Secular materialists are too insecure in their beliefs to be able to tolerate even a single institution portraying an alternative viewpoint, I guess.

As for environmentalists, I said before that the idea of a Young Earth does more to support the concept of the earth as a fragile system that can be easily disturbed than does the theory of an Earth that’s hundreds of millions of years old. But inextricably linked with the idea of an Earth that is only about 6,000 years old is the God that created this Earth, and environmentalists who buy into the superstition of man-caused global warming find that a price that is too high to pay.

This Kent Hovind guy gives creationists a bad name:

His attorney, Alan Richey, argued that the Internal Revenue Service pursued his client because of his religious beliefs. Kent Hovind, whose life’s mission is to debunk evolution, says he and his employees are workers of God and therefore exempt from paying taxes. He pays his employees in cash and does not withhold their taxes or pay his share as an employer.

He may believe that God created the world, but I wonder if he is a Christian. If he was indeed a follower of Christ, then he would respect and obey his words and the words of those he sent:

…”Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” — Jesus, from Matthew 22:15-22

1Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer. 5Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. 6For the same reason you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. 7Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. — Apostle Paul, Romans 13:1-7

13Now who is there to harm you if you are zealous for what is good? 14But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you will be blessed. Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, 15but in your hearts regard Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; 16yet do it with gentleness and respect, having a good conscience, so that, when you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ may be put to shame. 17For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that should be God’s will, than for doing evil. — Apostle Peter, 1 Peter 3:13-17

This story is an example of a fascinating discovery that is horribly misinterpreted. Some funny quotes:

“Scientists have found what might have been the ideal ancient vacation hotspot with a 74-degree Fahrenheit average temperature, alligator ancestors and palm trees. It’s smack in the middle of the Arctic. First-of-its-kind core samples dug up from deep beneath the Arctic Ocean floor show that 55 million years ago [sic] an area near the North Pole was practically a subtropical paradise, three new studies show.”

Hmm… A subtropical paradise. Perhaps very much like the Garden of Eden, maybe??

Millions of years ago [sic] the Earth experienced an extended period of natural global warming. But around 55 million years ago [sic] there was a sudden supercharged spike of carbon dioxide that accelerated the greenhouse effect. Scientists already knew this “thermal event” happened but are not sure what caused it. Perhaps massive releases of methane from the ocean, the continent-sized burning of trees, lots of volcanic eruptions. [Emphasis added.]

Gee, I wonder what this “thermal event” could have been? Some think that it was the Global Flood as written about in the Bible. Some of the people that think this are actually scientists that have gone a long way to actually show scientifically how this could be the case:

ABSTRACT:
Experimental investigation of the solid state deformation properties of silicates at high temperatures has revealed that the deformation rate depends on the stress to a power of about 3 to 5 as well as strongly on the temperature. This highly nonlinear behavior leads to the potential of thermal runaway of the mantle’s cold upper boundary layer as it peels away from the surface and sinks through the hot mantle. The additional fact that the mineral phase changes that occur at 660 km depth act as a barrier to convective flow and lead to a tendency for large episodic avalanche events compounds the potential for catastrophic dynamics. Two-dimensional finite element calculations are presented that attempt to model these strongly nonlinear phenomena. It is proposed that such a runaway episode was responsible for the Flood described in Genesis and resulted in massive global tectonic change at the earth’s surface.

Compare the abstract above and the scientific paper it’s attached to with this little gem:

Skeptics of man-made causes of global warming have nothing to rejoice over, however. But the Answers in Genesis crowd pretty effectively refutes this in their article on the subject, which is actually a chapter in a comprehensive book on people groups. Any Christian who reads their Bible humbly and with the help of the Holy Spirit can not but realize that we are all brothers. We should all pray for the ability to love our neighbor, no matter what color they are, especially those who are fellow believers. Truth be told, it’s the consistently godless that assume that one people group is inherently superior to any of the others– Adolf Hitler, Robert Mugabe, Margaret Sanger, and the like.
