Profits for the Glory of God.

Don McLaurin, an elder at my church, recently spoke about the Realm of the Market. It was my cup of tea, because he spoke about how the Market is not inherently evil, but that it is a valid realm of Christ’s authority in itself and that it can be redeemed for Christ [10MB mp3 file]. During his talk, he mentions the Bastiat Society, a local group of Market partisans here in South Carolina (Here’s more on Frédéric Bastiat himself.) After he spoke, I went up to thank him, and noticed that he had a book with him at the podium — “Business for the Glory of God” by Wayne Grudem — which will be going into the Resource Links of this site. His perspective was a refreshing one that is not heard all that often but should be: doing open and honest business in a free market is not inherently evil, as some would have us think. While evil men do dishonest business all the time and they should be frustrated at every opportunity, it is possible to both love your Neighbor and make a profit; in fact the two often go hand in hand.
